In our latest revealing interview with a member of the Project Kahn staff, Production Manager Naz Kahn speaks to kahnnews.com about what it takes to oversee one of the biggest production bases in the country.
From assessing development of bespoke vehicles from inception through to completion – he admits there’s rarely time for a day off as he tries to ensure everything is in place to provide a steady production line.
The principal member of staff has been a driving force behind the emergence of some of the Afzal Kahn’s most accomplished designs and yet, he refuses to take full credit for his achievements.
Sitting at the desk of his production office, which offers a striking view of the facilities’, he is keen to stress that Afzal Kahn is the ones who must take the accolades for any success.
“We are here to help Afzal in any way we can, but at the end of the day it is he who comes up with the designs,” he says, with a modest shrug.
“I have a much broader role. The best bit about the job is that I know I am in charge of major decisions that have a big impact.
“It’s quite nice to think, that so long as you make the right choices, you will end up having a bigger influence on the success of the place.”
For a man who is one of Afzal Kahn’s most trusted aides, Naz is remarkably humble when it comes to discussing his track record. It seemed inevitable that his destiny would lead him to take up a full-time position with Project Kahn – and he hasn’t looked back since. However, Khan’s role means he is more often than not called upon to be a ‘Jack of all trades’.
“I arrived here when the company was still growing many years ago and have been here since. How the company has grown over the years is just sensational and I am proud to be a part of it.”
“No day is ever the same, simply because there are so many things going on,” he says.
“Any member of staff in the building will come to me with issues. It could be anything from body fitting, colour coding, the community section – the list is endless and they all come together as part of one big plan for the production department. It’s my job to have the overall vision and make sure they all fit in to the grand scheme of things. Everyone must be aware of how we work, what we want doing and what we want to achieve.”
The modesty of the man whose passion is centred around production – and not self-promotion.
“I think that on the whole, the best part of my job is watching the youngsters come up through the ranks,” he says.
“It’s great seeing them here, simply because they love the place. You see the energy and love for the product they have and as a senior member of staff you don’t have a problem instilling the Kahn desire and philosophy into them. You just need to channel it in the right way.”
While Naz has been keen to put some of his own ideas into force he is always mindful of the philosophy instilled by Afzal Kahn.
“It’s Afzal that started all this and we are proud to be a part of the business. He had a vision and saw that through so you have to respect what he has been through, and what he has achieved.”
