London/England, February, 2011 – The Range Rover is an icon and we do not use the words as persuasively as some!

Expanding the appeal of the Range Rover by combining Cosworth’s engineering with quintessential British styling beckons an imperial sentiment of a truly ambitious degree.

Study finds women are better than men at parking cars!!

It will leave most male drivers astounded and probably surprise a large proportion of female motorists too.

A study by British based car-park operator, NCP makes the controversial claim that women are actually better at parking.

Although they take longer than men to park, they are said to be more proficient at finding a space and positioning the car centrally within it.

The survey, which rated of 2,500 drivers on different aspects of parking, reveals that out of a maximum total of 20, women scored an average of 13.4 and the average male 12.3.

This was despite the fact that a mere 18 per cent of women thought they were better parkers than men.

The first area scrutinised, was the ability to find a space.

It found that impatient men often missed spaces by driving through the car park too fast. ‘The ladies’ slower approach meant they were better able to notice spaces, or spot when other drivers were about to leave,’ it said.

Positioning the car correctly before entering the parking bay was the next skill to be tested. Some 39 per cent of women opted to reverse in – the method preferred by driving instructors – compared with 28 per cent of men.

Testosterone filled males were also happier with the position of their car once in the space – and that cost them dear in the scoring. Only 29 per cent of men chose to readjust the car, against 56 per cent of women.

Fifty-three per cent of women were found to have parked centrally, compared with only 25 per cent of men.

This final position was given the heaviest weighting in the scoring. On average, it took women 21 seconds to park, compared with 16 seconds for men.

Over a lifetime, says the report, this translates into men spending nine days parking while woman take 12.

Intriguingly, the study noticed that men accompanied by a female passenger love to ‘pose park’ – attempting to squeeze into a small space when a bigger one is available.

The parking test was designed for NCP by Neil Beeson, who featured in an ITV documentary, Last Chance Driving School.

‘I was quite surprised by the results because, in my experience, men have always been the best learners and usually performed better in lessons,’ he said.

‘However, it’s possible that women retain the information better. The report shows that men need to give our partners more respect when it comes to parking. The facts don’t lie!’

An exclusive interview with Afzal Kahn

The passionate designer, businessman, and automotive enthusiast answers questions from the motoring exposure website about what drives him, and tells readers about his luxury automotive and lifestyle company.

How did you get your start?

I’ve always had an interest in cars. As a young boy I used to stand outside car dealerships and work out in my head how I would go about re-designing a particular vehicle.

This created a fierce hunger for success on a grand scale. And as time went by, I worked (without a wage) some very long hours at a fibre glass company in Bradford in order to master the craftsmanship and aesthetics of different styling packages.

I was so hungry and focused I actually went on to buy the company!

And as project ideas took off, I set up a small car accessory outlet. And even though the premises were quite small, there was something special about it and customers came in droves to buy my products. I set out to design my own wheel and I only ended up manufacturing the first wheel in the world with the spoke running all the way to the edge of the rim. It’s something I’m proud of and I can let you into an exclusive here – I’ve not lost that hunger at all, I’m still, deep down that wide eyed young boy who had an idea and saw it through.

What inspires your designs?

Well, what inspired Picasso? What inspires the likes of Gucci and Ralph Lauren?

It’s all about passion hunger and longevity. It’s all in my head, and I’m sure the Armani’s and the Gucci’s of this world work in a similar way, and that is a quest for perfection!

I can only but make apparel with aesthetics, beauty and luxury that appeals to prominent customers. My brand has been built primarily on my personality and identity. The brand takes on my identity through the designs we produce.

If you want to be the best, you have to constantly innovate and offer customers something unique. A. Kahn Design is for the individual who will not submit to a life of uniformity and who will only accept perfection.

In order to cater for such high esteemed individuals, one must strive for perfection. My company is one of only a select few remaining global automotive brands in the UK. People forget we’ve been around for quite a while, but the key to our prominence is all about producing something unique, well, the road is my catwalk after all!

The Kahn Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe

The Afzal Kahn Challenge: “I will transform the Aston Martin Cygnet into a style icon”

Strange enough that Aston Martin has placed such importance on their Cygnet city car, however, the real news is that Afzal Kahn’s once again set himself a major challenge.

The principal British designer has vowed to ‘transform this baby Aston Martin Cygnet to something more refined’.

The man himself has already decided on the colour scheme and is in the very midst of developing the look. And for those of you who think this is one experiment too far, think back to when Afzal Kahn took his hand to the much maligned Ssang Yong Rexton and the end result was, yes, you guessed it: a Kahn Ssang Yong Rexton – hailed by observers as a style icon!
