Some of the latest stunts are ingenious, to say the least, while others are pretty damn obvious. All of these stunts, however, act as an alert to see you don’t fall into the same aberrant trap.

Enjoy, but don’t say we didn’t warn you…

Three, two, one… and shove

The steal: Inspired by an idea that began in the USA, and then spread to Europe – thieves were now accustomed to breaking in, disengaging the integral steering lock, dropping the handbrake – then use another car to simply push the target away. Most of these stolen vehicles, apparently, were stripped for the best parts, so beware.

The thwart: Depending on the make and model of your car, you could be susceptible to this kind of theft. To guard yourself, we suggest you invest in a Kahn steering lock that fits onto your steering wheel and makes it rather complex to manoeuvre efficiently.

Not remotely funny…..

The steal: car thieves frequently use radar jammers to block the signal you use when you remote-lock your car. The perpetrators need to lurk pretty close to their target, but if you don’t notice them, when you click your remote fob and stroll away from your vehicle (thinking that it’s safely locked) it’s been left open for attack.

The thwart: The Project Kahn alarm system is offered with sensor package options so you can select the most suitable protection for your specific requirements, so you can put your mind at ease. Additional tips include, don’t park near anyone lurking suspiciously, don’t park towards the very end of a car park, park instead at the front so your car is in full view of passers by, and security cameras.

Don’t get iced

The steal: we’ve all heard warnings about the dangers of leaving your keys in the ignition under any circumstances (and thereby becoming eligible for a big fat insurance pay-out of £0.00) but the 20009 -2011 winters brought the danger into sharp focus when a gang of thieves known as the “ice bandits” stalked the early-morning streets of Bolton, successfully came away with around 15 cars before the law – before a jail sentence finally caught up.

The thwart: if an early commute in freezing temperatures is unavoidable, you could mull over investing in a state of the art Project Kahn heating system for your car. Includes heated seats and a number of excellent extras, otherwise, get up earlier and get some thermals on!

Can I take it out for a test drive?

The steal: If you’re selling your car, be it online or through the local newspaper or carpages.co.uk, your prospective buyer turns up and seems decent enough. He even points to his own car in the street and, offers to leave the keys, and asks if it’s ok to take yours for a short-lived test drive. And low and behold, he’s never seen again!

The thwart: Insurers advise you must always accompany prospective buyers on test drives. Scams like these can often be detected if you ask to see a valid passport or photo card driving licence and also take a photo copy. Also, corroborate insurance details. If the driver is not dodgy, he or she will happily comply.

Make your own

Not tremendously difficult if you drive a diesel. Many books and websites depict how to filter veg oil, add methanol and full up your tank. Officially, you should still pay fuel duty but you’ll still be saving a mere 20p a litre. 

Only drawback however, is you will have to get used to smelling like a chip shop.

Reverse into your drive

Reverse into your drive or your parking place at work. A cold engine uses much more fuel than when it’s hot, so minimise cold running. Combine a number of tasks into one trip, clear misty windows and open driveway gates before you start the engine and reverse into parking bays or driveways so that you can drive ‘your wheels’ straight out and warm the engine up as fast as possible.

Do without fresh air

You may not realise but keeping you air-conditioning on can swell petrol consumption by up to 25 per cent! So it’s best to keep cool by simply opening the air vents, sunroof or windows.

However, when driving at high speeds in your Project Kahn vehicle it may actually be more fuel efficient to keep your windows closed and cool down using the air-con system. This is because driving at speeds of over 60 mph with an open window dramatically increases drag and can affect petrol consumption more than using the air-conditioning.

Find the cheapest petrol in your area

Cut your motoring costs by paying less at the pumps

The internet is a great tool for finding the cheapest fuel in your area, with no website more exhaustive than petrolprices.com (UK only).

Just tap in your postcode to bring up prices for around 8,000 stations across the UK and you could save a few pennies towards your next Project Kahn Range Rover.

Make money from your parking space 

Websites such as Parkatmyhouse.com and Parkonmydrive.net enable property-owners to rent out their empty driveways and garages to drivers needing somewhere to park. You normally pay a one-off registration fee to have your space advertised and then watch the cash roll in.

The money you make from parking could go towards the cost of filling up, or your next Kahn watch or cherished number plate.

Drive without lights at night
Apparently, taxi drivers in Cairo and some in Morocco believe driving without lights at night saves fuel. It almost certainly does not.

Keep the weight down - empty the boot! 
Get rid of any surplus weight from the car.100kg in the back can increase your fuel consumption by over 5mpg. So take out your golf clubs and other unnecessary bulk to save gas.

Keep your distance

Keep away from the car ahead of you to smooth out your driving. (Two seconds behind it will greatly reduce braking and stopping).

Get under pressure

Low tires will sap your fuel efficiency with shocking speed, so if you want to save money on gas you need to check your tire pressure at least a few times every month.

Pick the route with the least stops

Cars in general use a lot more fuel when starting and stopping so when possible, pick the route that has the least stops and starts. This will also help save your brakes. Remember that most stoplights are calibrated to maximize flow, so if you keep the speed legal you’ll save yet more money.

There are few entrepreneurs who can boast of being the designer of choice for Hollywood actors and Premiership footballers.

The reason is hardly a mystery as Afzal Kahn is among the top five designers of bespoke vehicles in the world.

He excels in taking on world class car brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, and Range Rover, stripping them to the core to create a whole new Project Kahn car. His strength lies in unique wheel designs and state of the art accessories created by his automotive design company in Bradford.

“I love the cars right from the age of 10. As a kid I couldn’t help looking at car dealerships and knowing deep down that I could, in some way, totally re-invent it. That is what we do here with a team of 60 talented staff,” says the 37 –year old design and property tycoon.

A classic example of his genius is in the James Bond car, DB9s, that sells for £120,000 or the swanky McLaren SLR that he cruises in.

His company sells an average of 250 bespoke vehicles a year but Kahn is not one to rest on his laurels. He has developed a parallel property business under Kahn landmark and had a buying power of over £75 million with properties worldwide. He has also stepped into the world of watch design and is on the lookout for a talented fashion designer who can help launch the Project Kahn fashion label.

In January 2007 Afzal made the headlines by snapping up the cherished reg F1 – the most expensive in the UK for a cool £440,625.

F1 now adorns the ground breaking Kahn Cosworth Sport 300. “I wouldn’t call myself a car fanatic but more of a designer. This is taking the luxury 4×4 market to the next stage. The UK has been out of the limelight from the world’s motoring industry for too long, we are aiming to put it back on the map with this innovative new creation. Our select consumers will be delighted to own distinctively styled cars with Cosworth tuned engines.”

The son of an ice-cream man, Kahn recalls the days when he had to go to school in Wellington boots because his family could not afford proper school shoes. But it was his sheer passion and hard work that prevailed.

At the age of 14 he took up his first job selling eggs door to door – far removed from his design ambitions. “Ok, it wasn’t the perfect start but it was while I was walking around selling eggs that I began to aspire to somehow becoming involved in the car industry. I worked for free in the plastic moulding factory in order to get some experience in the manufacturing industry. The hours were long and tiring, but I gained the knowledge I needed and it held me in good stead. That part of my working life is vital. My parents taught me the value of hard work,” he recalls.

"I was the first manufacturer to design a wheel with a spoke that ran to the very edge of the rim. It’s strange that now this particular style has become one of the most replicated in the world. It’s just good to see that all those hours of hard work finally paid off.”

Before long, Kahn had expanded his business from wheels to designing car accessories, exhausts and body kits; In 2001 he set up V12 power Ltd, now one of the most prestigious bespoke vehicle specialists in the UK. But keen to move away from dealing with standard manufactured vehicles, Kahn decided to go one step further and bring his own touch to bespoke vehicles and Project Kahn was born.

Now the most successful automotive design house in the UK, Kahn is adamant that his company ethos remains unchanged.

“The company’s ethos is all about British styling. We make tailored vehicle solutions for bespoke clients who want to break free from the conformities of standard manufacturers. I’ve no interest in bling – other people can do that if they wish. For me, it’s all about meeting people who are creative and talented, coming up with fresh ideas and developing concepts that can take my company forward.

“Don’t listen to anybody who says that you can’t achieve your dreams and be prepared for a hard slog – be prepared to work at a hundred miles per hour,” he stresses.

This is exactly the mantra he has lived by and his list of achievements speak for themselves.
